The College of Urban and Environmental Sciences enjoys a long history. In 1902, the Department of History and Geography was established when Shaanxi University was founded. In 1937, the Department of Geography was set up with the establishment of the Xi'an Temporary University. In 1992, the original Department of Geography was renamed as “Department of City and Resources”, complying with the needs of scientific development and economic construction. In 1996, based on the original environmental geography and environmental ecology, the teaching and scientific researchers of chemistry, chemical engineering, and other disciplines were absorbed, and the Department of Environmental Sciences was established. After continuous development and construction, the new College of Urban and Environmental Sciences was established in October 2009. For more than a century, faculties in the College of Urban and Environmental Sciences persevered, contributing to the disciplines’ development and construction and talent training. A group of famous scholars taught here, including Huang Guozhang, Fu Jiaojin, Xia Kairu, Wang Chengzu, and Chen Zongxing. A group of well-known scholars and more than 10,000 talents were cultivated here, including Liu Changming, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Cui Peng, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Niu Wenyuan, academician of the Third World Academy of Sciences.
